I’m writing this with a smile on my face ONLY because I’m sitting inside my warm apartment while staring at the NYC skyline. However, it has been pretty brutal lately. Freezing temps + a touch of snow + strong winds = the worst combination. I have learned over these past few years of being a northeasterner the weather is completely insane, drastic, unpredictable and unfortunately, just inevitable. Don’t even get me started on commuting in it.
Originally a San Diego gal, I’m used to 75° and sunny. Not anymore. Every morning I religiously check my Yahoo! weather app to view the hourly predictions for the day, I always look outside our bedroom window and I watch my favorite meteorologists on GMA to see how most of the US is also suffering with me (minus Southern California of course).
All negativity aside, I naturally have enjoyed changing up my style for colder weather. While winter can be painful and some of the outer gear can be somewhat unattractive, you can still look and feel stylish.
Many of my recommended pieces are timeless and will absolutely last for a few seasons, so neutral colors are the answer.
- Cashmere Infinity Scarf by J.CREW. I wear this just about every day while I commute!
- Ribbed Cashmere Hat by J.CREW. Perfect to wear under a hood in a down coat.
- Mackage Fur-Trimmed Trish Down Coat from Bloomingdales. I actually rock another down coat that is lined with black fox fur that I purchased on major sale, however I am eyeing this expensive stunner.
- Cashmere-Lined Tech Gloves by J.CREW. I can confirm that they do actually work with my smartphone.
- Burberry Rain Boots – Clemence Check in Charcoal from Bloomingdales. I actually really hate tall rain boots because I feel like I’m wearing gigantic plastic buckets. But, these do the job. They are comfortable, lighter than most and stylish. I also wear them in light snow. I purchased them last year and couldn’t be happier about it.
- Daryl Short Waterproof Boot by Cole Haan. Yup, these are waterproof and probably one of my favorites this winter. Thanks to my husband who gifted them to me this holiday season. P.S. You can find them on sale on Amazon!
- Chelsea Rain Boots by J.CREW. These rain booties are another favorite of mine from this season. These offer everything for me when commuting or walking my pup in the rain. I purchased them on sale + 40% off during the holidays, so make sure to keep an eye on that!
